A structural steel metal deck opening is reinforced with a channel header located under the full flute of the deck closest to the opening. The connection utilizes a quarter-inch plate measuring four inches by six and a half inches secured with two seven-eighths inch diameter bolts spaced at three inches on center typically. Fillet welds of three-sixteenths inch size connect the assembly at typical locations. Dimensioning requires a minimum one and a half inches up to a maximum three inches around the opening length 'L'.
