A skewed beam connects to a supporting beam web or column flange using a connection plate with variable weld sizes and preparation depending on the root opening. Condition A applies when the root opening exceeds three-eighths of an inch, requiring specific plate sizing and a one-fourth-inch fillet weld. Condition B handles root openings between three-sixteenths and three-eighths of an inch using a complete joint penetration weld. Condition C applies when the root opening is three-sixteenths of an inch or less, utilizing a ninety-degree angle connection. The connection layout accommodates a maximum sixty-degree skew angle and a four-and-one-half-inch maximum offset to the center line of bolts.
