Two steel S-beams meet end-to-end at a field splice located within one foot of the centerline of the hollow structural section hanger. The web and flanges are joined using a complete joint penetration weld with welding access holes provided at the web-to-flange intersections. The splice occurs where indicated on the drawings and follows standard structural steel connection protocols.
