An open web steel joist bears on a one-half-inch steel cap plate secured to the top of a structural steel column. Half-inch erection bolts fasten the joist top chords to the cap plate. Field welds connect the joist chords with one-quarter-inch and one-eighth-inch sizing. A note designates a joist top chord service axial load of four kips for column stability. The bottom chords reference a separate typical bottom chord connection detail.
