A wide flange steel column supports incoming wide flange steel beams on each side through bolted connection plates sized per structural schedules. A three-eighths inch thick cap plate spans the top of the column and is secured with one-quarter inch fillet welds unless noted otherwise. Full depth stiffener plates are welded inside the column web per structural notes to handle concentrated loads. A roof deck bears across the top of the assembly with sizing and attachment specified on the roof plan.
