A hollow structural section column connects below a structural beam utilizing a three-eighths-inch thick plate sized one inch wider than the hollow structural section width and centered on each side. A three-quarters-inch diameter erection bolt provides temporary alignment at the top connection, maintained with a maximum half-inch gap. The shear plate extends to the bottom flange on each side for an intersecting beam, or alternatively requires a quarter-inch by depth-over-two minimum stiffener plate on each side. Welds are specified as typical five-sixteenth-inch fillets joining the connection plates.
