A quarter-inch stiffener plate is welded to the opposite side of a beam shear connection web across half the depth of the web. Three-sixteenths-inch fillet welds secure the top and bottom of the stiffener plate to the supporting member. The stiffener plate is omitted when a full-height stiffener plate already exists within six inches of the opposite side of the connection. Beam size and top of steel elevation are determined per the framing plan.
