An 18-gauge continuous bent plate spans between columns at the roof expansion joint, flanked by steel joists and a steel beam. The metal roof deck laps over the bent plate on both joist chords, with fasteners extending through both the deck and the bent plate per the deck schedule. The joist supplier provides plugs between the top chord angles to transfer shear forces per the deck shear schedule in directions perpendicular and parallel to the joist. Additional joists are provided per plans at the expansion joint bearing, maintaining a two-inch minimum bearing and specified dimensional clearances.
