A structural steel column splice connection is located four feet above the finish floor. The assembly features an upper steel column resting on a base plate with a thickness matching the upper column flange, set to a minimum of three-quarters of an inch. Four seven-eighths inch diameter minimum ASTM A325 bolts secure the connection, with a one and one-half inch clearance indicated. Below sits a cap plate matching the lower column flange thickness, also with a three-quarter inch minimum. Fillet welds of five-sixteenths inch are specified on each side typically, with notes to omit k and k1 on each side typically.
