A steel beam connects to a hollow structural section column using a typical shear plate welded to the beam web along three sides with a five-sixteenths inch fillet weld. Complete joint penetration welds connect the beam flanges and continuity plates to the column, accompanied by typical weld access holes. Standard bolts secure the beam web to the shear plate connection.
