Cold-formed steel studs and joists feature pre-punched web openings with strict dimensional limits for allowable punchout size and edge spacing. Existing penetrations are reinforced using solid steel plates, C-sections, or tracks matching the stud thickness and fastened with screws at one inch on center. Minimum distances are maintained from member ends and bearings to web openings.
