This structural detail shows a concrete topping slab bearing on a concrete slab or concrete on steel deck with a perimeter structural slab, wall, or beam. Number 4 reinforcing dowels at two feet long spaced at forty-eight inches on center are drilled and epoxied with four inches of embedment into the primary structure around the perimeter of the topping slab, while post-tensioned slabs utilize cast-in dowels. The topping slab is placed after the slab below reaches design strength and includes reinforcement placed at one-third of the depth from the top of the slab. Waterproofing, insulation, and control joints are provided per architectural specifications.
