An HSS column bears directly on a wide flange steel beam through a half-inch thick bearing plate. The connection is secured with four bolts installed at the beam gauge, using minimum five-eighth-inch diameter fasteners. A quarter-inch fillet weld fastens the assembly components together with typical one-and-a-half-inch clearances aligned to the column and beam centerline.
