A steel beam bears directly onto a steel cap plate welded to the top of a steel column. A beam web stiffener or beam web connection plate is welded to each side of the beam web and anchored to the cap plate. Fillet welds of one-quarter inch size secure the plate connections, while the column and beam sizes are sized per plan and schedule.
