A vertical tube steel member connects to a wide flange beam through a series of welded plates and bolted angle supports. A plate matching the flange thickness is welded to the beam with a complete joint penetration weld and a three-sided 3/16-inch fillet weld, featuring a plate centered on the tube steel with slotted holes per Note 1. A three-sided 5/16-inch fillet weld secures the assembly at the upper connection, while an angle L6x4x3/8 with long leg vertical is fastened with 3/4-inch diameter A325-N bolts through slotted holes at the lower beam flange. A 3/4-inch gap is maintained at the connection, with a 3/4-inch plate provided at the top only and specified setbacks detailed per plan.
