Continuity plates are welded inside a wide-flange steel column. The plates feature a four-inch minimum width with a preferred alternative to extend flush with the column flanges. Weld tabs are removed to one-quarter inch maximum from the edge of the continuity plate, and weld ends are ground smooth without gouging the column flange. Dimensional clearances include one-half inch minimum radius cutouts and specific setbacks based on the column dimension K.
