A structural steel column connects to a steel base plate resting on one and one-half inches of non-shrink grout above a concrete footing. The base plate is secured with hooked anchor bolts embedded into the footing. A concrete slab on grade surrounds the column assembly, featuring a formed concrete blockout around the base connection to accommodate clearance. A five-sixteenths inch fillet weld secures the column to the base plate.
