A construction joint occurs between a first and second concrete pour resting on a compacted subgrade. Smooth 3/4-inch diameter galvanized plain bars, 2 feet long, are spaced at 1 foot 6 inches on center across the joint. The dowels are wrapped with polyethylene or fitted with a closed sleeve to allow for horizontal movement. Slab reinforcing is sized per plan, and joint locations are coordinated to suit the joint pattern.
