A structural steel column connects to a lower steel column and a perpendicular steel beam through a 3/4 inch by 6 inch bearing plate fastened with 7/8 inch diameter A325 bolts at standard gauge. A diagonal brace member connects to the assembly via a 1/2 inch thick ASTM A572 Grade 50 gusset plate, with the brace slotted a maximum of 1/8 inch wider than the gusset plate thickness. Fillet welds of 5/16 inch and 1/4 inch sizes secure the gusset plate to the steel column and bearing plate as specified by the weld symbols. The steel beam attaches to the column flange using a bolted connection with 3 inch on-center spacing and 1 1/2 inch edge distances.
