A floor slab opening up to twenty-four inches wide is framed with hollow structural section tubes measuring three inches by one and a half inches by one-eighth inch placed on top of the steel decking. A number five reinforcing bar is positioned above each hollow structural section member. The steel deck web is cut adjacent to each tube with a one-eighth inch weld by one-half inch typically, and a one-eighth inch weld by one inch is applied at the center of each upper flute beyond the opening typically. Concrete is poured over the metal deck, and the deck remains uncut until the concrete has been placed and cured with suitable sleeves or bulkheads in place.
