An unformed spread footing is poured directly against earth in a neat excavation, subject to the approval of the geotechnical engineer. The footing features a neat cut trench with a minimum width defined as the width shown on the drawing plus two inches minimum. Two-inch planking is specified typically alongside continuous clean-outs, with minimum formwork requirements established unless fully formed. The concrete surface requires cleaning and intentional roughening to a minimum amplitude of plus or minus one-quarter inch after setting. Additional notes restrict footing widths to no more than four inches wider than shown on the plan and prohibit continuous clean-out stakes in the footing area.
