Concrete slab openings require number 4 reinforcing bars placed typically around the perimeter with diagonal corner bars for small openings under one foot square. For openings smaller than one foot by one foot, diagonal bars are provided only and side bars are omitted. All unshown openings larger than one foot square and multiple holes spaced closer than three times the largest opening dimension must be submitted for review to the structural engineer. Minimum extensions of one foot six inches are maintained beyond the opening edges with one and one-half inch typical clearances.
