A twelve-gauge steel plate is placed on top of the metal deck to reinforce an opening. The plate extends a minimum of one foot to the center of the next full top flute beyond the opening edge. Fillet welds secure the plate at each deck flute, detailed as one-sixteenth inch welds with specific length and spacing. The opening dimension is restricted to a maximum twelve-inch width.
