Shear studs are welded through metal deck to the top flange of a structural steel beam supporting a concrete slab. Single row, tandem row, and triple row configurations are detailed with respective minimum beam flange widths of six inches for tandem rows and nine inches for triple rows. Each configuration requires a minimum clearance of one and one-half inches of concrete cover above the top of the deck after welding, aligned with the centerline of the beam and shear studs.
