A hollow structural section hanger connects to the underside of a steel beam using five-sixteenth-inch plates on the near side and far side, matching the width of the hollow structural section. Fillet welds of one-quarter-inch size secure the side plates to the hanger and beam flanges. Above the beam, a hollow structural section column sits on a base plate sized per plan.
