A structural steel braced frame connection details a gusset plate welded to a beam and column assembly, with a stiffener plate positioned between the beam flanges. The one-half inch thick stiffener plate is placed on each side, matching the width of the beam flange and located one-half inch maximum above the toe of the fillet. Angles measuring 5x5x3/8 on each side are bolted using eight 7/8-inch diameter ASTM A325 bolts. Fillet welds of 5/16-inch and 1/4-inch sizes are specified on each side for the connection plates.
