A temporary slab opening features a one-and-a-half-inch formed keyway at the joint, with concrete infilled after the brace is removed through the opening. The continuous slab reinforcing includes number five bars at nine inches on center each way top and bottom, supplemented by number six bars extending two feet six inches at twelve inches on center. Additional continuity is provided by two number four bars and one continuous number five bar at the inserts. Inserts are spaced to match the dowel spacing, and typical or added reinforcement follows the structural floor plan.
