An exterior column spread footing or foundation mat incorporates edge reinforcement configuration. Top and bottom mat reinforcing bars are sized per plan, with top bars extending toward the edge and finishing with standard hooks. The perimeter of the mat incorporates number five bars spaced at twelve inches on center for mat depths greater than or equal to three feet, while hook bars are specified for depths less than three feet. The mat depth is designated as variable D per plan.
