A concrete slab-on-grade construction joint features five-eighths-inch diameter by twenty-four-inch smooth steel dowels spaced at twenty-four inches on center, with one side greased and installed in a dowel insert. Reinforcing steel is placed per plan within the slab of thickness t per plan, sitting above a vapor barrier where required. The slab bears on compacted structural fill or competent native soil, with subgrade preparation performed per the geotechnical report.
