A steel beam frames into a steel column away from braced bays, utilizing a shear plate connection with three seven-eighths-inch diameter erection bolts, reduced to two bolts for W8 or W10 shapes. The shear plate thickness equals the beam web thickness plus one-eighth inch, while complete-joint-penetration welds connect the top and bottom flanges. Stiffener plates fabricated from fifty KSI steel match the greater beam flange thickness plus one-eighth inch. Additional five- sixteenth-inch fillet welds are applied on three sides as specified. A concrete over metal floor deck assembly bears near the top of the connection with standard clearances and weld access holes provided.
