A steel column connects to a steel base plate resting on a one-and-a-half-inch layer of non-shrink grout over a concrete footing. The base plate is secured with anchor bolts equipped with heavy hex nuts and five-sixteenth-inch hardened washers per structural notes. A concrete blockout surrounds the base of the column, separated from the adjacent exterior slab or grade. Complete joint penetration welds are used typically for the column connection.
