A wide-flange steel column bears on a steel base plate of specified thickness supported by a one-and-one-half-inch layer of non-shrink grout above the top of the concrete slab. Anchor rods with a typical one-foot-four-inch embedment depth secure the base plate into the concrete foundation. The base plate features a six-inch projection beyond the column flange.
