An HSS beam connects to a wide flange column flange and web using top and bottom structural angles sized as L4x4x1/2. The angles are welded to the column with 5/16-inch fillet welds on both sides and to the HSS beam with 1/4-inch fillet welds on three sides. A maximum clearance of 1/2 inch is maintained between the beam end and the column face. The connection uses the larger side of the HSS where applicable, with top and bottom angles dimensioned based on column width and depth.
