A concrete masonry unit wall runs parallel to an overhead steel roof deck, featuring top channel bracing and a bond beam. A C5x6.7 channel at 8 inches or a C5x9 channel at 12 inches is placed on each side of the masonry wall with an 8-foot maximum span, welded with quarter-inch fillet welds. The masonry extends at least one course above the channels. A compressible fire-rated filler seals the gap between the top of the wall and the underside of the steel roof deck or wide-flange beam.
