An expansion joint occurs at a concrete shear wall supporting a structural steel beam and a concrete slab on metal deck. The steel beam connects to an embed plate cast into the face of the concrete shear wall with complete joint penetration welds at the top and bottom flange. An expansion joint is maintained through the concrete slab on metal deck above the beam support.
