An HSS beam connects to an HSS column sized per plan using top and bottom L3x3x1/4x0'-8" angles welded with 3/16-inch welds spaced at 3 inches typical. A 1/4-inch cap plate is welded to the HSS column face with a 1/2-inch clearance gap maintained between the beam end and the column. Three-sixteenths inch fillet welds are applied on each side typical.
