A structural steel column connects to a steel beam featuring web doubler plates welded to the column web. Stiffener plates are welded perpendicular to the beam web with a three-sixteenths inch minimum weld size at the edges. A gusset plate ties into the assembly below the beam flange with either a complete joint penetration groove weld or a partial joint penetration groove weld sized at one and one-quarter times the doubler plate thickness per AWS D1.8 Clause 4.3. Additional doubler plate groove welds are specified at three-quarters of the plate thickness. Section A-A details the profile and positioning of the doubler plate relative to the column flanges.
