Framing around a structural opening in a metal deck floor or roof assembly consists of C6 channel members spanning the opening supported by bolted or welded connections with two-bolt beam connections or quarter-inch fillet welds four inches long at each side of the web on all channel ends. Trim reinforcing and closure plates frame the opening with a two-inch clearance. A C8 channel is located within eight inches of the opening edge typically. Openings exceeding forty-eight inches in maximum dimension require notification of the engineer for design.
