A steel beam connects to a universal column using a sixteen millimeter end plate welded full penetration butt weld to the beam flanges and fillet welded to the web. The end plate attaches to the column web with four M20 grade 8.8 tensioned friction-grip bolts. Ten millimeter column web stiffeners are fillet welded to the column flanges. A twelve millimeter backing plate is provided at the connection.
