A steel beam passes continuously through or frames into a column centerline with a top connection plate welded across the flange. Complete joint penetration welds and fillet welds of five-sixteenths inch size secure the flange connection plates and stiffener plates to the column. Stiffener plates are placed on each side of the column web matching the greater of the connected beam flange thicknesses. Four-bolt shear tabs connect the beam webs to the column flanges on each side. The flange connection plate material matches the beam steel grade.
