A one-inch Grade 50 steel column cap plate rests atop the steel column and is secured with four one-inch diameter A490 bolts. Three-eighths-inch Grade 50 stiffener plates are welded to each side of the beam web using five-sixteenths-inch fillet welds on three sides. The connection assembly transfers heavy loads from the beam to the supporting column.
