A structural steel column cap plate acts as a continuity plate, sized to the thicker beam flange thickness plus one-quarter inch unless otherwise noted. Braced frame beams or collector floor beams frame into opposing sides of the column. Welds to the column flange below the cap are specified as five-sixteenths inch, while connections to the column web utilize designated weld sizes per note requirements.
