Steel column webs are reinforced with Grade 50 doubler plates placed on each side per the schedule and elevation notes. Continuity plates are attached to the column flanges using complete joint penetration welds with a typical k-dimension clearance plus one-eighth inch. Plug welds consisting of four one-inch diameter holes spaced equally secure the doubler plates to the column web. Connection plates for perpendicular beams attach to the doubler plate assembly similarly.
