A structural steel column base connects to a four-foot-square concrete pedestal using a thick base plate secured by sixteen one-and-one-quarter-inch-diameter high-strength anchor bolts with typical double nuts. A two-and-one-half-inch maximum layer of non-shrink grout fills the clearance space beneath the base plate. The concrete pedestal is reinforced with vertical dowels and horizontal ties.
