Two steel joists are connected at a splice point located between the joists, tied together using a continuous bottom plate and a channel chord tie sized as shown on plan. A splice plate measuring one-quarter inch by twelve inches by one foot zero inches is positioned beneath the joists. A strap plate measuring three-eighths inch by two and one-half inches by one foot zero inches is centered over the splice. Field welds are specified with typical sizing including one-eighth inch, three-sixteenths inch, and one-quarter inch fillets.
