An HSS beam connects to an HSS column via top and bottom structural steel angles sized L4x4x3/8. A one-half-inch clearance is maintained between the end of the hollow structural section beam and the face of the hollow structural section column. The angles are secured with typical quarter-inch fillet welds. The vertical leg of the angle turns down at the top of the column connection.
