This assembly consists of a stainless steel hollow structural section brace spliced with a complete joint penetration weld. A one-half inch thick round stainless steel plate is inserted into the hollow section to match the inside diameter of the brace. This plate is centered on the weld joint to serve as a permanent backing plate for the complete joint penetration weld.
