A structural steel column specified per elevation connects to a four-inch thick A572 Grade 50 base plate. Four two-and-a-half-inch diameter anchor rods secure the base plate over a one-inch layer of non-shrink grout. Four three-inch diameter A572 Grade 50 shear lugs weld to the base plate and extend into a blockout in the concrete slab, which is subsequently filled with non-shrink grout. A backing bar is removed after the weld is completed, and a thirteen-sixteenths inch maximum grout hole is provided at the contractor's option.
