An L4x4x5/16 angle brace connects to the top flange of the nearest structural steel beam, skewed as required below the metal roof deck. A one-quarter-inch by five-inch by five-inch plate is welded to each brace using three-sixteenth-inch fillet welds. An alternative connection details a kicker perpendicular to the joist using three-sixteenth-inch fillet welds connecting the plate and angle brace elements.
