A wide-flange beam frames into a wide-flange column utilizing a vertical plate welded to the column web with a partial-joint-penetration weld. A shear plate connects the beam web to the vertical plate using a complete-joint-penetration weld and field bolts. Top and bottom continuity plates match the column flanges, with 1/4-inch fillet welds attaching the flange plates to the continuity plates. The vertical plate is welded to the continuity plates with 5/16-inch fillet welds typically at top and bottom. Column continuity plates are installed on sides without moment connections per structural notes.
